JOB SUMMARY

The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment across a variety of project sites. Working primarily from a dedicated service truck, this position collaborates closely with the Project General Foreman to ensure all equipment remains operational, safe, and project ready. The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic must be able to perform field-based repairs efficiently and adapt to a range of environments and conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Inspect heavy vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.

Repair heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as cranes, front-end loaders, tractor-trailers, Super-Suckers, aerial lifts, skid steers, and non-mobile equipment such as heaters, light plants, and generators based on inspection and direction from supervisors.

Adjust, repair, and replace the following: engines, transmissions, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, Centrifugal pumps, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, and steering.

Disassemble and reassemble vehicle and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic tools, and electric tools.

Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lube, oil, and filter changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.

Diagnose and repair DEF and after treatment systems.

Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose issues and test drive after repairs are complete to ensure issue(s) have been resolved.

Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area.

Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.

Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

A valid (U.S issued) Driver’s License is required.

A North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification is required.

The ability to work 80.5 hours a week on a 3x3 rotation is required.

The ability and willingness to work alone, unsupervised, and/or in a team setting is required.

At least three (3) years’ experience repairing, diagnosing, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy-duty trucks, loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, Vac-Trailers, Vacuum Trucks, Winch Tractors, Grove Rough-terrain Cranes, and other heavy-duty oilfield equipment are required.

Proficiency with diagnostic software programs Prosis, Volvo Tech Tool, Cat ET, and Cummins Insite is required.

Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing Tier 4 after diesel exhaust treatment systems (Emissions systems) is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Five (5) – ten (10) years’ experience working on heavy-duty trucks, Caterpillar heavy equipment, and Volvo heavy-duty equipment in the Oil and Gas industry and/or the North Slope is preferred.
