Job Description

The Service/Repair Technician 3 possesses in depth knowledge and demonstrated mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, gas, and/or refrigeration (HVACR) aptitude with complex troubleshooting experience. The role involves providing on‑site support to Hobart Service customers, including installation and/or servicing of commercial food equipment. The work schedule includes on‑call, after‑hours, holiday, and weekend on‑site repair support.

Responsibilities
  • Installs mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, gas, and/or refrigeration commercial food equipment and leads advanced installs as needed.
  • Maintains, diagnoses, and repairs commercial food equipment on contract and time‑and‑material (T&M) basis.
  • Interprets and follows schematic diagrams.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of operational sequences for multiple operating modes.
  • Applies state and federal combustion emissions regulations.
  • Performs and documents preventative maintenance.
  • Supports standard operating procedures outlined in Hobart Service safety manuals and programs.
  • Promotes branch and organization financial objectives by delivering quality customer service and generating leads.
  • Supports new product introductions.
  • Maintains current industry and equipment knowledge.
  • Manages assigned company assets including vehicle, tools, and inventory.
  • Follows safe driving and applicable company policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct or indirect supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Required Education and

Work Experience:

High school diploma or GED with 4–7 years of food equipment service experience or 2–4 years of HVACR service experience.

Desired Education/

Experience:

Associate’s degree or vocational certificate. Prefer experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial cooking and/or refrigeration equipment.

Certificates and Licenses: Industry certifications highly desirable, including Accredited Certified Technician (CFESA/NATE/Hobart) and EPA certification.

Job‑Specific Knowledge:

  • Mechanical aptitude with complex troubleshooting experience, skilled in hand tools, service manuals, gauges, and meters.
  • Customer service skills using interpersonal styles, communication methods, and problem‑solving techniques.
  • Safety at work, including PPE and training compliance.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical Demands: Lift up to 75 lbs, climb 10 ft A‑frame ladder, occasional roof access over 20 ft, extensive walking (3–5 miles/day), extensive driving (5–6 hours/day), kneel, squat, bend, push/pull, maneuver in tight spaces, operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, operate machinery and power tools.

Working Conditions: Office facility and customer facilities (including commercial kitchens), exposure to noise, heat, cold, slippery, wet, or dirty conditions, travel up to 50% of time.

Hours of Work: Normal business hours with occasional/frequent/extended hours as needed; flexibility required for critical deadlines; extended hours may include nights and/or weekends; scheduled hours cover early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
