Job Description
Works on construction projects, usually working a utility capacity, transferring from one task to another per demands. The worker is expected to perform duties with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
- Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
- Mixes concrete and smooth and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.
- Position, join, align, and seal pipe sections, erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
- Mops, brushes, or spreads paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
- Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
- Apply caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
- Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring.
- Demolishing buildings, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating material.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success may also be assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year construction laborer experience.
- Previous firewatch experience preferred.
- Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years, preferred for eligibility under company vehicle insurance policy.
Physical Requirements
The work environment is representative of what an employee encounters while performing essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Noise level is usually moderate.
Physical demands:
Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear; occasionally required to sit. Steel–toed boots required. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
