What can you expect?As the Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic II, you will work onsite in Fairbanks, AK and will be responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Yukon Equipment’s fleet and service machinery. This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. The position requires working both independently and collaboratively with other mechanics, providing technical expertise to support team and customer needs.
You may also interact with customers to assess issues, provide guidance, and ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, heavy-duty trucks and semi-tractors, material spreaders, 6-wheel drive military-type vehicles, excavators, hydraulic drive systems, high-pressure hydraulic systems, bulldozers (25 ton and smaller), graders, trailers, backhoes, skid steers, tractors, vacuum trucks, street sweepers, aerial towers, man lifts, and airport and highway snow removal equipment.
- Receive repair orders from the Shop Supervisor and discuss equipment concerns, repair priorities, and expected turnaround timelines.
- Perform preventive maintenance services including inspections, lubrication, fluid checks, and component adjustments to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Operate equipment for testing and verification purposes following repairs or maintenance.
- Inspect and evaluate equipment to determine the extent of repairs, maintenance needs, and appropriate corrective action.
- Communicate diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, and parts requirements to the Shop Supervisor or appropriate management.
- Operate shop equipment, tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively in accordance with manufacturer and company standards.
- Research and identify required parts, components, and materials necessary to complete repair and maintenance activities.
- Complete accurate documentation of repairs, parts used, labor hours, and maintenance activities on work orders and service records.
- Inspect completed repairs and maintenance work to ensure equipment is functioning properly and meets safety and quality standards before returning equipment to service.
