The Temporary Trades position will work under general supervision, may routinely perform a variety of skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in a variety of trades requiring at least apprentice level skills, or tasks within a specialized trade requiring journeyman level skills.
This position is represented by the Alaska Higher Education Crafts & Trades Employees (L6070).
Positions are hired on an as‑needed basis, determined by the Division of Maintenance hiring authority.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures; ability to write reports and business correspondence; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Ability to work independently and in a group setting including following, interpreting, and communicating instructions given by management or lead employee; relating to management and other employees in a positive manner; making efforts to solve crew conflicts; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pressures, frequency, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. - Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. - Journeyman level certification, if applicable, in the craft or trade duties being performed.
- Possess specialized licenses within appropriate field; including a commercial driver’s license, automotive and/or medium/heavy truck service excellence certification, inspector certifications, state fire systems permit, Certificate of Fitness Asbestos Abatement, etc.
A minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum QualificationsMay possess journeyman level certification. Requires apprentice level or other equivalent certification appropriate to the specific trade; with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Salary InformationMSW3 / Step 1 $ 20.25/hr. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement.)
