Join The UAF Facilities Services Team

The UAF Facilities Services Labor Department is looking for two new team members to join our Operations Division. These are full-time, benefited positions that offer opportunities for advancement. As part of the Labor team, you will provide a variety of hands-on services and support to the UAF campus community, as well as the shops and departments within Facilities Services. Work includes general labor, maintenance and minor repair, snow and ice removal, office and departmental moves, event setups, concrete and sign repair, and other tasks that help keep University buildings and grounds safe and operational.

You may also assist skilled trades employees with maintenance and construction projects and use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment. This position involves strenuous physical work, including lifting and moving items weighing up to 70 pounds, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including during the winter months. Normal work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;

however, because Facilities Services supports a 24-hour campus, overtime and weekend work may be required. If you enjoy hands-on work, variety in your day, and being part of a team that supports the UAF campus, we encourage you to apply!

To thrive in this role, you will have the ability to safely perform general labor, maintenance, construction, moving, and cleanup activities and be skilled in the use of a variety of hand and power tools. You should be comfortable performing physically demanding and repetitive work, including lifting and moving heavy objects, and be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, the ability to perform basic preventative maintenance and routine care of tools and equipment, and the ability to identify and address maintenance, safety, and cleanup needs. You should be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, including working collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organization.

The ability and willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions is essential. Experience operating forklifts and pallet jacks and knowledge of safe handling practices for hazardous materials and industrial waste are also important. A self-motivated approach, good problem-solving skills, and a willingness to take initiative will help you succeed in this position.

Preferred experience:

Two years of experience in construction, moving, general labor, or a related field is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED preferred, 2+ years' of construction or moving industry experience preferred, basic understanding of construction principles and procedures. Alaska driver's license.

An unrestricted Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt, union-represented staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
