Role Overview
The Resident Assistant (RA) is a student member of the Department of Residence Life. They work closely with staff and students to create and maintain an atmosphere that promotes student development and acceptance of diversity through group living in University residence halls and apartments. Resident Assistants are Campus Security Authorities and Authorized Adults. The RA assumes responsibility for a designated area within the residence hall(s) or apartment complexes.
The position is part‑time, live‑in, and appointments are made on a yearly basis.
Responsibilities include student personnel services and residence hall operations under the supervision of the Resident Director or Assistant Resident Director. The RA serves as a role model and catalyst for positive social interaction within the residence hall community, assists in the development of programs, and builds strong communities in their area.
Stipend and Benefits: $364 biweekly stipend, room waiver, and reduced meal plan.
Essential Skills- Demonstrate leadership potential or previous leadership experience.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written.
- Resolve conflict through mediation and confrontation.
- Organize and complete work in a timely manner.
- Analyze information, problem‑solve, and use sound judgment in decision making.
- Work independently and collaboratively.
- Work a minimum of 3 week nights starting at 7:00 pm and ending at 8:00 am, as well as all‑day weekend hours on a rotating basis.

- Approachability and ability to build relationships/community.
- Use Microsoft and Google suite applications.
- Lift and carry 15 pounds.
- Identify individuals from a minimum of 10 feet away.
- Walk up and down 8 flights of stairs.
Applicants must have a cumulative and semester grade point average of 2.0 or above at the time of application and start date, and be a full‑time undergraduate student at UAF with 12 undergraduate credits.
Applicants must complete all UAF employee required training (Safety training, Title IX, Protection of minors, Campus Security Authority, and FERPA) within two weeks of the hire date.
At the time of hire, applicants must have applied for housing through the Department of Residence Life and paid any application fees.
Must be available to maintain a schedule that ensures student contact, particularly during evening hours and weekends, and to work for the duration of the RA contract period (contract dates are subject to change).
Additional RequirementsMust be able to work a minimum of three nights a week from 7:00 pm to 8:00 am and all‑day weekend shifts on a rotating basis.
