Transfer Specialist
The Transfer Specialist is responsible for the care, removal, and transport of deceased. This position collaborates with team members to ensure processes and procedures remain compliant. The specialist safely and courteously drives company‑owned vehicles, maintains vehicle cleanliness, and presents a professional appearance when interacting with families; casual attire may be worn during vehicle maintenance.
Job Responsibilities- Safely drive company‑owned professional vehicles for “first call” transfers of deceased in accordance with local, state, and provincial laws and company policies.
- Follow chain‑of‑custody, paperwork, and deceased identification procedures.
- Cooperate with first responders, coroner, hospital staff, or senior living facilities and accommodate their processes.
- Interact courteously and professionally with bereaved families; exhibit sensitivity and minimize conversation during home transfers.
- Enter deceased event information into proprietary software per company procedures.
- Transport caskets to airports, care centers, or funeral homes; assist with moving caskets.
- Wash, vacuum, and clean vehicles to ensure they appear presentable.
- Fuel vehicles as necessary.
- Follow safety guidelines and expenditure processes.
- Maintain personal protective and transfer supplies, including cleaning products, in vehicles.
- Identify vehicle engine or operating issues for management; drive vehicles for repair or inspection.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current state or province issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- At least one (1) year of work experience as a courier or driver; direct customer interaction strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to adhere to a work schedule supporting business needs, including weekends and nights.
- Ability to work on‑call weekends, nights, and holidays rotation.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally; push/pull up to 200 pounds.
- Ability to drive in hazardous, heavy traffic, and adverse weather conditions.
- Basic computer skills.
Work Environment
- Work indoors and/or outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions.
- Local and/or multiple location traveling required.
- Comply with field dress code policy.
Work Postures
- Frequent, continuous periods of standing up to 6 hours per day.
- Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently.
Physical Demands
- Lifting, pushing, pulling up to 75 pounds.
- Manual dexterity required for paperwork, calculator, computer, and phone usage.
Work Hours
- Working beyond “standard” hours as the need arises.
- Local travel up to 100% using company vehicle.
