Position: Rural Airport Foreman (PCN 250996) King Salmon

Introduction

ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY!

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O is looking for a Rural Airport Foreman in King Salmon to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the airport maintenance crew (6 full‑time) by planning, scheduling, and directing daily operations.
  • Perform and oversee maintenance activities, including snow and ice control, road and airport surface repair, vegetation management, and drainage work.
  • Operate and coordinate the use of heavy equipment such as plow trucks, loaders, graders, and dozers.
  • Maintain records and reports of daily work, inventory, and materials using the state’s Maintenance Management System (AGILE).
  • Respond to public inquiries, manage personnel matters, and coordinate with other agencies and DOT&PF departments on projects and permitting.

    • First Response: Knowledge of emergency management methods, such as first aid, rescue techniques, and threat assessments.
  • Commercial Driver’s License: Class A CDL required at time of hire; conditional hire approval only for endorsements. The proposed appointee must successfully obtain an N‑Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
  • Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of highways and/or airports.
  • Qualifications to operate all required equipment at the duty station.
  • Special Notes: Some positions require a Hazardous Materials endorsement. Some positions require American Traffic Safety Services Association training. Positions require First Aid, ETT, CPR, First Responder, and ARFF certification (14 CFR Part 139) and Airport Security Coordinator certification (49 CFR Part 15f42). Incumbents of positions in this job class are required to pass a criminal background check and are required to be fingerprinted.

    Some positions may be required to use a firearm or ammunition and are therefore subject to Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(9) which prohibits persons who have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from owning, possessing, or using a firearm or ammunition.

    Note:

    Incumbents of positions that require a Commercial Driver’s license are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy: Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and cannot start work in a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) position until a pre‑employment drug test is confirmed.
  • Arms & Ammunition Requirement: This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition; discretion is subject to federal regulations concerning domestic violence convictions.
