Summary Of Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position

The X‑Ray Technician performs digital X‑ray studies on patients per the orders placed by providers. The X‑Ray Technician is a multi‑skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the direction of the provider.

• Safely performs provider‑ordered radiographic examinations, including proper patient positioning, immobilization, and utilisation of appropriate radiation protection.
• Sets up and adjusts supportive and immobilisation equipment and devices as required by individual cases. Positions and handles patients with a high degree of safety and professionalism.
• Accurately documents patient encounters within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Determines and selects proper electronic and technical factors which safeguard the patient, x‑ray tube, and equipment.
• Maintains clinical and administrative skills to meet patient care and daily operational needs. Collects patient specimens and runs point‑of‑care lab tests. Travels to other facilities for BSMH providers or adjusts work hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the manager, if required.
• Directs and practices sterile technique to prevent cross‑contamination of disease.
• Reports immediately any malfunction, necessary adjustments, or repairs of equipment to supervisor.
• Other duties include ordering supplies, arranging lab and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check‑in/check‑out, and performing scribing duties as needed.

• Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) (required)
• State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is performed). If the job is performed in Virginia, State Licensure is required.
• BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must be obtained from an approved source prior to direct patient care) (required)

Associate's from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute (preferred)

1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred)

• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
• Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) (preferred)
