Job Overview
The Software Developer will support the development, sustainment, and enhancement of advanced simulation software for a military training system. The role is performed onsite and requires a technically strong engineer with a cybersecurity or IT background who can provide mid‑level leadership within a highly skilled development team.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, debug, and maintain simulation software components, tools, and system interfaces.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems engineering, and modeling teams to integrate software with simulator components, avionics interfaces, and real‑time systems.
- Apply cybersecurity best practices, secure coding standards, and system hardening principles to ensure compliance with DoD security requirements.
- Provide mentoring and mid‑level technical leadership to a high‑performing engineering team; assist with task planning, code reviews, and technical decision‑making.
- Investigate and resolve complex system‑level technical issues involving software, networking, data flows, and real‑time performance.
- Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, design artifacts, and configuration management records within a controlled engineering environment.
- Work directly with government stakeholders, program managers, and cross‑functional engineering teams to support program milestones and deliverables.
- 3+ years of professional experience in software development, ideally in a DoD, aerospace, or simulation environment.
- Proficiency in languages such as C++, C#, Python, or similar object‑oriented programming languages.
- Experience supporting or integrating software within IT‑centric or cybersecurity‑controlled architectures.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices, system authentication, and networked application security.
- Familiarity with real‑time systems, simulation frameworks, or distributed software architectures.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and systems‑level problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to provide mentoring or leadership within technical teams.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, IT, cybersecurity, or related technical field. - Experience with military training systems, high‑fidelity simulators, or mission rehearsal environments.
- Background integrating software with hardware‑in‑the‑loop or avionics systems.
- Security+, CEH, CISSP, or related cybersecurity credentials.
- Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity frameworks (RMF, STIGs, HBSS/ESS, etc.).
- Previous work within a DoD environment or on government‑funded programs.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance prior to start date.
- Work performed in a secure engineering lab and office environment.
- May require occasional hands‑on system testing on simulator devices or hardware racks.
