CDL Driver - Residential

Job Summary

Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and truck type. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pickup service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material; containers may weigh over 1,000 pounds and drivers may need to maneuver wheeled containers to a pickup stage area.

Drivers navigate high‑traffic, congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, performing highly skilled backing maneuvers to safely complete each task. Residential Drivers collect residential household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuvering vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, often operating in tight overhead environments on industrial routes.

• Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
• Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
• Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
• Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
• Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to serve, or potential safety hazards.
• Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
• Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
• Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
• Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.

Required Qualifications:

• 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
• Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, answer official questions, and complete records or reports.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
• CDL Class A or B with an air‑brake endorsement (Class A: CDL Class A with air‑brake endorsement upon hire; Class B: CDL Class B with air‑brake endorsement upon hire).
