Since the doors opened in 1972, our Atlanta factory has grown dramatically into a state‑of‑the‑art facility. With safety at the forefront of our minds, our Atlanta factory proudly and passionately produces 460,000 tons a year of our dry pet food brands, including Alpo®, Beneful®, Cat Chow®, Dog Chow®, Friskies®, Purina ONE®, and Pro Plan®. Our factory also does its part for the environment by conserving water, investing in renewable electricity, maintaining zero waste for disposables, and more.
This plant is located in Metro Atlanta, a region that serves nearly 6 million residents and many of our associates call home. As an Ingredient Specialist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the quality and safety of the ingredients used to make our products. You’ll work closely with Quality Assurance, Production, and Receiving teams to test incoming raw materials, maintain compliance with food safety standards, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
- This position will work Monday‑Friday on a 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm shift and will require working weekends and extended hours outside of the posted shift as business needs require.
- This role requires working at elevated heights while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and fall‑protection equipment. Work will also be performed outdoors and in non‑climate‑controlled environments.
- Sample and test incoming ingredient shipments from bulk trucks, railcars, tankers, and trailers to verify quality and specification requirements.
- Complete sampling methods as defined by quality and safety procedures, including work at heights and wearing required fall protection for railcar or truck sampling.
- Investigate ingredient‑related concerns and help resolve quality issues.
- Maintain accurate testing records, documentation, and sample retention requirements.
- Maintain a strong commitment to food safety, employee safety, and quality in every aspect of the role.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 1+ year of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, military, or related environment.
- Knowledge of food safety and quality procedures.
- Ability to work at heights and in outdoor, non‑climate‑controlled environments.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
