Staff Accountant

The Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® (NVAR) is seeking a talented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our Finance team.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjusting entries.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
• Track and reconcile membership dues, conference revenue, sponsorship income, and other key revenue sources.
• Prepare financial reports and support management reporting needs.
• Assist with the annual audit and related schedules.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and organizational policies.
• Collaborate with departments across the organization to support financial operations and reporting.
• Participate in the implementation and optimization of a new Financial Management System.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA or significant progress toward obtaining a CPA within one to two years.
• 2–5 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
• Experience supporting audits and preparing reconciliations.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative team environment.
