Job Duties

The GDC Payments Deputy Clerk (grade
8) within the Fairfax County General District Court's Payment team provides the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of the day-to-day operations of an urban court and the Virginia judicial process. The candidate must be committed to providing excellent customer service to a diverse population, enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-volume office with tight deadlines, and thrive in a results-oriented, teamwork environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Deputy Clerk is responsible for a wide range of clerical responsibilities including, but not limited to, accepting payments on prepaid and unpaid cases; issuing DC-30 reinstatement forms; updating case information in the case management and financial systems; scanning documents in the imaging system; completing amended abstracts for the DMV; processing and sorting mail; receipting case papers and preparing daily deposits.

The clerk will also be responsible for processing garnishment payments; verifying and auditing fines and costs assessments; performing data entry; producing correspondence; answering phone inquiries; filing; archiving; and other duties as required. More than half of an employee's time is spent serving the public at a counter window and/or over the phones.

Minimum Qualifications

The most competitive candidates will possess:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Most competitive applicants will have some court, business, or office related experience. Applicants must be detail oriented, highly accurate and organized. Should be excellent at multi-tasking and follow-up, as well as have the ability to learn new tasks quickly. Must be willing to assist the public in a courteous and efficient manner and be a team player who assists others.

Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. A minimum data entry speed of 30 w.p.m. is required, and cashiering experience is highly desirable. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an office and courtroom setting. Duties require the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and operate standard office equipment. The employee may be required to lift or carry items weighing up to approximately 10 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
