The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia is seeking staff for the Chai‑5 After School Program. Candidates must be available to work 5 days a week (M‑F) from 3:00‑6:00PM, though flexibility can be scheduled. Chai‑5 serves children from the grades of K‑6 in the Fairfax area. The Counselor position is one that will be asked to design and maintain a welcoming “HOMEBASE” classroom, using age appropriate furniture, toys, decorations and supplies.
The Counselors will work with other classroom counselors to ensure a safe, meaningful and fun environment for the children. All candidates must have a passion for the growth and development of school‑aged children!
- Assisting with the day‑to‑day operations of the program
- Implementing weekly developmentally appropriate programming
- Coordinating and leading group games and activities
- Verbal communications with parents on a regular basis
- Attending all trainings and staff meetings
- Developing strong relationships with children, parents, staff and the JCCNV community
- Maintaining a neat, safe, and well‑decorated HOMEBASE classroom
- Ensuring the program is meeting all Virginia state licensing requirements
- Monitoring children’s behavior using “Daily Report Forms” and communication with School Age Services Program Manager
- Recording and maintaining accurate attendance lists throughout the day
- Working with 1‑2 classroom counselors setting up daily snack, facilitating daily activities, giving homework help, and maintaining a safe and fun environment for all children in the program
