Position: Mail Services Technician (Administrative Assistant II)

Job Announcement

This position performs a combination of mail processing, equipment operation, and delivery services in a team-oriented environment supporting Fairfax County Government. This position operates high-speed mailing equipment, prepares bulk mailings, processes interoffice and USPS mail, and provides scheduled delivery and pickup services to county facilities throughout the region. Serves as a key operational resource by supporting multiple delivery routes, transporting accountable and time-sensitive mail, and ensuring the accurate and timely distribution of critical communications.

Success in this role requires strong customer service, attention to detail, adaptability, and a commitment to safe, efficient operations. The essential functions of this position require the employee to work onsite at County facilities on a full-time basis.

General administrative assistance and/or mail services.

Employment Standards

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and one year of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s). Certificates and Licenses

Required:

Valid driver's license Necessary

Special Requirements :
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing mail services, courier services, shipping and receiving, logistics, warehouse operations, print production, or related operational support work.
  • Experience operating high-speed mail processing equipment (inserters, tabbers, postage systems, printers).
  • Experience with USPS mailing standards and bulk mail preparation.
  • Experience operating delivery vehicles and supporting multiple delivery routes.
  • Experience using package tracking, inventory, or asset management systems.
  • Experience working in a government, institutional, or large organizational mail services environment.
  • Experience providing direct customer service while supporting internal or external customers.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift material and containers weighing up to 70 pounds. Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations. Selection Procedure:
