Job Description
We are seeking a Medical Director of Anesthesia at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital location. We are looking for experienced, motivated, and world-class anesthesiologists to join our team and serve our communities. Our Anesthesiologists support and work in partnership with a robust CRNA team 24/7, in addition to nocturnist coverage with our CRNA teams. The Medical Director will work collaboratively with the Operations team, Hospital Administration, and CRNA leadership to carry out the Group’s mission of maintaining a mutually respectful work environment, leading by example, and sharing a genuine passion for providing excellent patient care.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and guidance to medical staff:
  • Oversees the anesthesia department's clinical and operational activities, ensuring high standards of care
  • Fosters a collaborative and supportive environment for staff development and growth
  • Acts as a liaison between anesthesia staff and hospital administration, advocating for resources and policy changes when necessary
  • Clinical and administrative responsibilities:
  • Oversees scheduling, staffing, and daily operational issues within the anesthesia department
  • Monitors and evaluates quality of care, including the review of clinical outcomes and departmental performance metrics
  • Ensures compliance with hospital and regulatory standards for patient care and safety
  • Develops and monitors the anesthesia department’s budget, ensuring efficient use of resources
  • Works with hospital administration to make informed decisions about capital expenditures, staffing needs, and departmental growth
  • Provides in-service staff development and clinical teachings to trainees rotating through medical practice
  • Provides mentorship and career development support for junior staff and trainees in anesthesiology
  • Facilitates a culture of continuous learning and professional development through workshops, case discussions, and simulation training
  • Qualifications/Requirements:

  • MD/DO with successful completion of anesthesiology residency
  • Board certified/board eligible in anesthesiology
  • Proven leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage and inspire a diverse team of anesthesia professionals in a clinical setting
  • Strong strategic and operational management skills, with experience overseeing department budgets, staffing, and resource allocation
  • Experience in all methods of anesthetic delivery including but not limited to intravenous/general, spinal, epidural, ultrasound guided regional anesthesia
  • Experience in broad spectrum of clinical services- including but not limited to spine, joint replacement, minimally invasive surgery, maternal, endoscopic, diagnostic imaging
  • Collaborate and coordinate with physicians, nurses, technicians, and other healthcare providers in the assessment and management of patients throughout the peri-procedural encounter
  • Must demonstrate good communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of Chief/Director Leadership Experience
