Overview
IMEG is hiring a Civil Project Designer in Fairfax, VA to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects, while collaborating with senior staff on larger, more complex work. The role involves working closely with a team of engineers and consultants to deliver positive client outcomes through civil engineering analysis, design support, field inspections, reporting, and permit application support—all while staying within the project budget and collaborating across teams.
Responsibilities- Direct and train Civil Design Technicians to complete reports, exhibits, plans, specifications and permit applications as required by the project’s contractual scope.
- Lead design efforts for analysis of civil site design projects for commercial, residential, and industrial sites using engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations meeting code requirements and IMEG standards.
- Prepare and support site drainage, grading, and stormwater design work as required by project scope.
- Complete and oversee permit applications for a variety of municipalities in coordination with the team, client, and reviewing jurisdiction.
- Perform engineering analysis, field inspections, and technical documentation to support project delivery.
- Write reports and maintain clear project records to support internal and client needs.
- Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase.
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively, building and maintaining client relationships through professional communication.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
- Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in building design consulting, with 4 years preferred; 7 years experience in building design consulting or construction industry, with 8 years preferred.
- Associate’s degree, certificate, or equivalent experience in utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent software tools.
- Knowledge of industry standard engineering software, primarily Civil 3D.
- Proficient with pipe networking and road corridors.
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications.
- Strong technical and analytical skills in civil engineering principles.
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written formats.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
