Lighting Designer/Engineer Intern/Co-op Fall 2026

CMTA, a Legence company, is a fast‑growing engineering firm specializing in sustainable, high‑performance building engineering. The Energy Solutions division focuses on Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs), upgrading and renovating facilities through design, construction management, commissioning, and ongoing energy management.

This co‑op program offers college students immersive experience in ESPC projects for one or more semesters, with full‑time engineering supervision and opportunities to develop skills in energy modeling, renovation document preparation, and field work. Co‑ops will work on multiple ESPC projects throughout development, implementation, and verification stages.

Lighting Co‑ops will gain hands‑on experience with commercial lighting systems and be expected to produce a complete LED lighting upgrade design. They will support lighting project managers in all project phases.

• Assist in all aspects of the project development phase – including site visits and building audits.
• Conduct energy calculations for lighting upgrades.
• Produce detailed construction documents using CAD for LED lighting upgrades.
• Support material procurement and construction management staff during implementation of lighting upgrades.
• Field verify proper installation and implementation of LED lighting upgrades.

• Pursuing a BSEE; preferably a sophomore or junior.
• CAD experience helpful but not required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Willingness to travel for field work.
