Senior Traffic Engineer – Locations:
Fairfax, VA;
Richmond, VA;
Virginia Beach, VA
Dewberry is currently seeking a motivated Senior Traffic Engineer to serve in one of our offices in Fairfax, Richmond, or Virginia Beach. The role focuses on traffic engineering design and studies related to work‑zone traffic control, signage and pavement markings, traffic signals, lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and traffic operational analyses. Projects range from local community‑focused safety and multimodal initiatives to large freeway improvements, offering career growth in a collaborative environment.
The candidate will manage traffic engineering tasks, lead junior engineers, and collaborate with roadway, structures, hydraulics, and environmental teams.
Minimum of 5 years of traffic engineering experience is required, preferably with exposure to VDOT, MDOT, design‑build, VDOT, MSHA, MDTA, or similar agencies. A BS in Civil Engineering is required; a PE license or PTOE is preferred. Proficiency with Micro Station is required, and experience with VISSIM, Synchro, Sim Traffic, and HCS is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential.

- PE license preferred; PTOE preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in traffic engineering
- Experience with VDOT, MSHA, MDTA, and/or design‑build projects preferred
- Micro Station experience required
- Proficiency with analysis software (VISSIM, Synchro, Sim Traffic, HCS) preferred
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Project management and leadership skills preferred
