Job Overview
Dewberry is seeking a Senior Structural (Bridge) Engineer in any of our Virginia offices to grow and strengthen our transportation design practice. The ideal candidate will hold a BS in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering and have 10+ years of experience delivering structural and bridge projects for VDOT, MSHA, and other state and local agencies. A strong understanding of design-build projects is preferred.
The candidate will design simple and complex bridges (primarily steel and concrete) and a variety of transportation related structures including retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other ancillary structures. Bridge design work encompasses new and replacement bridges, bridge widening, and bridge rehabilitation. The engineer will manage all phases of structural project development: planning, scheduling, inspection, analysis, design, contract plans, cost estimates, technical specifications, and reports.
The role requires leading a team of structural engineers and coordinating with other project disciplines and clients.
- Manage the structural elements on design and design-build projects.
- Assign tasks to engineers and provide technical assistance and guidance.
- Mentor, coach, and direct staff engineers.
- Perform structural analysis and develop design, construction plans, cost estimates, reports, and technical specifications.
- Assist with the preparation of project schedules and budgets.
- Perform quality-control reviews of design documentation and plans prepared by staff engineers and other consultants.
- Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, and design-build contractors.
- BS in Civil Engineering (MS with emphasis in Structural Engineering preferred).
- 10+ years of experience working on bridge transportation projects.
- VA PE license or ability to obtain within 1 year.
- Design-build experience is a plus.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong desire to be a key contributor in an outstanding team of industry-leading professionals.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to pass a driving record background check.
