Job Announcement
This position works as a permit reviewer (Planner I) within the Zoning Permits Section of the Zoning Administration Division. In this position, the permit reviewer performs a variety of complex permit review functions to determine compliance with the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance, Noise Ordinance, and other applicable land development codes.
ResponsibilitiesNote: The salary for this position will not exceed the midpoint of the advertised salary range.
In accordance with current Fairfax County telework and personnel policies, this position is eligible for partial telework. Telework enrollment and continuance are subject to supervisor approval and county policy.
Employment StandardsMinimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited, four-year college or university in a planning related field.
Bridge Class Employment StandardsFour years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Planning Technician II, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Planning Technician II, or higher, level.
The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County workforce. However, persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.
Valid driver's license.
NecessarySpecial Requirements
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Preferred Qualifications- At least two years of experience reviewing and issuing planning, zoning, building, and/or related permits.
- Experience reviewing various types of engineering, construction, planning, zoning, and/or building-related documents.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences both verbally and in writing.
- Experience managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
- Experience using a personal computer, Geographic Information System (GIS) based programs, and electronic permit review software (Project Dox, PLUS/Accela products).
Position is primarily sedentary; however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 10 pounds in weight. Ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle to sites in order to perform field inspections. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
