OverviewChartwells Higher Education, a Compass Group company, is re‑inventing on‑campus dining at over 300 colleges and universities. We are expanding our high‑volume catering department at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, and seek a Senior Catering Director to lead and grow this program.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and drive catering solutions that meet customer needs, working closely with the Executive Chef on menu development.
- Coordinate and oversee both internal and external catering events to ensure seamless execution and outstanding customer satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain the catering marketing plan, including comprehensive event planning services and detailed menu development aligned with client preferences.
- Lead hiring, training, and scheduling of catering staff, and support staff development in service techniques, menu presentation, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee all catering operations—labor control, food costs, preparation, transportation, setup, operation, and cleanup of events.
- Collaborate with Management and Chartwells Marketing teams to implement strategies that build revenue and expand market reach.
- Foster strong client relationships to align programs with their objectives, driving satisfaction and retention.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient dining service operations.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in catering leadership, including at least two years in management.
- Proven experience booking, selecting, and costing menu items, pricing contracts, and sourcing temporary help and equipment.
- Strong ability to supervise food preparation, service, and cleanup while maintaining high‑quality standards.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Proficiency with computers.
