The General Maintenance role is responsible to the funeral home and its client families by providing a wide variety of tasks and duties in the location to ensure services run smoothly and that the expectations of our client families and their guests are exceeded.

Compensation: $20 per hour

Location:

Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home located in Fairfax, VA.

• Ensure that all public areas of the funeral home such as parlors, chapels, reception/rest areas are clean and prepared for client families and their guests.
• Outside maintenance as required – general lawn maintenance
• Inspect light fixtures and replace bulbs as necessary.
• Regularly wax floors in all areas of funeral home to maintain professional appearance.
• Remove all trash from public areas and employee work stations on a daily basis.
• Clean employee break areas including sinks, cabinets, and coffee stations.
• Vacuum carpets and rugs to remove dirt and debris; shampoo as needed.
• Use and maintain assigned power and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
• Clean windows and glass surfaces to remove smudges and fingerprints.
• Dust furniture, cabinets, shelves, etc. throughout funeral home location.
• Order cleaning products and other supplies used in the maintenance of the building, property, and equipment.
• Maintain facility basic repairs as needed and alert Manager when more major repairs are necessary.
• Respond to any maintenance or cleaning emergencies as they arise.
• Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are carried out as not to disturb services, memorials or visitations.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience with general maintenance of facilities.
• Able to read, write and speak English fluently.
• Bilingual is a plus.
• Meeting our standards for services and commitment to client family satisfaction.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Valid state issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record.
