Chief Supervisor

Transdev in Fairfax County is hiring a Chief Supervisor at our Fairfax location. The Chief Supervisor assists the General Manager in all aspects of the daily location functions. We are seeking customer service-oriented professionals who are dedicated to safety.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive compensation package of minimum $65,000 and maximum $69,000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serves as the lead supervisor in the day-to-day management of the assigned area – Field Services, Dispatch, BOCC, Operations, and Station Services, and answers any questions that may arise.
  • Oversees all Operations functions and provides daily management of Fixed Route service.
  • Supervises and manages daily operations of fixed route service ensuring compliance with city, local, state and federal laws governing transit services; maintains courteous and informative communications with the public and passengers regarding Fairfax Connector service, schedules, and necessary changes due to emergencies and special events.
  • Responsible for reporting and managing operational daily KPI to the General Manager, including Overtime, Standby Utilization, On‑time Performance (OTP), Extra Board Guarantee Time (GUT), Late Gates and Dispatch errors.
  • Supports coordination of schedules and assignment of work for current Transportation Services Supervisors, Dispatch, Bus Operators, and Extra-Board Operators, enforces departmental policies, applies disciplinary action as required, and attends grievances or arbitral hearings.
  • Assists in overseeing and managing the complaint process for the Operations Department and ensures timely and effective resolutions; makes recommendations to the Management Team.
  • Manages operating issues from vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or missed/late routes; makes appropriate decisions regarding restoring or maintaining service.
  • Conducts ride checks and pre‑trip checks to evaluate operator efficiency; monitors performance and maintains accurate records.
  • Engages in staff selection by participating in the interview process, recommends potential employees for hire, and coordinates necessary training.
  • May be required to be available via a mobile device outside of normal working hours, as directed by the manager, and must respond within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Requires regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
  • Trains and assists dispatch and operations staff in resuming service levels according to contract specifications and minimizing passenger disruptions.
  • Provides feedback to safety and operations departments on safety‑related service items, identifies potential safety hazards, and incorporates feedback into daily operations procedures.
  • Assists in determining the preventability of accidents and incidents and makes recommendations for future training based on individual events or system trends.
  • Conducts site checks and road observations, documents findings, and reports to project staff.
  • Provides customer information for site personnel and at key locations.
  • Monitors gate checks at pull‑out or pull‑in times ensuring on‑time service and completion of necessary paperwork.
  • Cooperates with the Bus Operations Control Center to assist in identifying potential rerouting required because of traffic, construction, or accident situations.
  • Ensures operators are fit for duty, meet uniform and equipment standards, and possess proper licensing and certifications.
  • Develops and maintains a supervisor schedule per the CBA.
  • Provides training, supervision, and directs the work of front‑line supervisors and transit operators, exhibiting positive leadership and role modeling.
  • Conducts investigations into employee misconduct, including customer complaints.
  • Develops collaborative relationships between Operations and Maintenance and assists with road calls, bus replacements/change‑outs.
