POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Workforce Development leads NPMA's efforts to raise awareness of pest control careers, attract new talent into the industry, and secure the funding that fuels these initiatives. This position is charged with designing and promoting national awareness campaigns that introduce the pest management profession to audiences who may never have considered it. From career changers, students, transitioning military and veterans, and job seekers outside of traditional pipelines, and converting that awareness into applications and hires for NPMA member companies.
A central responsibility of this role is fundraising and revenue generation. The Director will cultivate, solicit, and steward financial investment from pest control companies and industry suppliers, building sponsorship, and multi-year partnership commitments that sustain NPMA's workforce development programs. The Director will also investigate available workforce grants at the federal, state, and private levels and work with contract grant writers when applicable.
The Director will collaborate closely with the NPMA Workforce Development Steering Committee and other appropriate committees and work groups as needed. She/He will also collaborate with external stakeholders such as the National Association of Workforce Boards and the National Association of State Workforce Agencies in addition to current partners like the Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (
MANRRS
), Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG), and Skillbridge. The Director is expected to become the internal subject matter expert on workforce items within the industry, lend support to related association initiatives, and oversee the marketing agency tasked with awareness campaigns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Workforce Short, Medium and Longterm Planning
- Work with supervisor and committee leads to develop, adapt and implement a multi-year plan to drive NPMA’s Workforce Development Initiative.
Awareness & Career-Promotion Campaigns
- Design, launch, and promote national awareness campaigns, pointing career seekers to , that build visibility for pest control careers and drive qualified candidates to member companies.
- Direct the PR/advertising agency relationship and manage the workforce pipeline through digital, PR, and advertising outreach across consumer and candidate audiences. Effectively manage the P/L budget associated with the WFD program.
Promoting Careers to New Audiences
- Introduce the pest management profession to individuals who may be unaware of the industry,including career changers, students, transitioning military and veterans, and job seekers outside of traditional pipelines — positioning pest control as a stable, rewarding, and mission-driven career.
- Develop and manage an NPMA microsite with resources for member companies.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward financial investment from pest control companies and industry suppliers — securing sponsor ships, and multi-year partnership commitments that fund and grow workforce development initiatives.
- Build and manage a portfolio of investor and partner relationships, delivering compelling cases for support, stewardship reporting, and demonstrable return on investment to sustain long-term funding.
- Investigate available workforce grants at the federal, state, and private levels and work with contract grant writers when applicable.
- Pursue additional funding avenues including academic partnerships, supplier partnerships, association/WIOA channels, and other identified partnerships.
