Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Supervisor – EmPATH Psychiatric Observation Nights

Inova Fairfax Hospital is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated RN Unit Supervisor to join our EmPATH Psychiatric Observation Unit on the night shift. This full‑time position has a 3 x 12‑hour shift schedule (7:00 pm to 7:30 am). We welcome Registered Nurses enthusiastic about working with psychiatric patients who are eager to make a positive impact in this specialty.

At Inova Fairfax Hospital, our inpatient units are designed to provide clients with safety, structure, and stabilization. Our interdisciplinary team works together to ensure the best possible care for patients. Therapeutic group activities, including creative art therapy, are integral to our patient‑centered approach. The average nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 6:1, ensuring personalized care.

• Staffing
• Patient review and placement
• Serve as a resource to Charge Nurse and staff
• Respond to all events on units
• Assist with orientation
• Conduct chart and environmental audits per Joint Commission standards
• Coach and educate staff
• Act as Charge Nurse or take patients if needed

Team members may be required to float to Behavioral Health Emergency Department PODs.

• Certification – Basic Life Support and completion of a revised Charge Nurse workshop within 3 months of hire
• Licensure – Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Experience – 1 year as a Registered Nurse
• Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or Associate’s Degree RN within 1 year of completing a BSN)

• Former psychiatric experience strongly preferred
