Inova Fairfax Medical Campus seeks a Registered Nurse Unit Supervisor on the Medical/Surgical Unit Full Time Day Shift. The role is a front‑line leader accountable for delivering reliable results related to quality and best practices to improve the clinical operations of the unit, supporting shared governance, and ensuring patient experience is a priority.

- Conduct high‑quality shift huddles communicating strategic priorities, gaps, and improvements
- Conduct effective safety huddles and delegate environmental and safety rounding; ensure RN rounding completion for areas of responsibility
- Perform continual staff rounds to remove or elevate barriers to quality care while enhancing staff engagement
- Review core measures and KPIs, analyze unit‑based service outcomes, and develop action plans for systematic improvements
- Participate in emergency and safety preparedness drills/training as required
- Participate in simulation labs and operating room safety stand‑downs
- Ensure adherence to The Joint Commission standards relevant to unit responsibilities and that team members understand related standards
- Contribute to professional decision‑making to support or implement unit‑based quality improvement work and strategic outcomes
- Serve as role model for patient communication, addressing concerns, diffusing difficult situations, and facilitating resolution
- Act as Physician Liaison and primary information resource/contact for unit(s) of responsibility
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure discharge priorities facilitate smooth patient flow transitions
- Accurately assess staffing and supply needs, forecast staffing discrepancies, and proactively address them
- Contribute to annual evaluations and disciplinary processes as delegated, support hiring and interview processes for new team members
- Provide individual coaching and counseling on critical processes, standards, problem solving, and performance expectations
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Experience:
At least one year of Registered Nurse clinical experience.
Education:
BSN;
Associate Degree RNs within one year of completing their BSN are eligible.
Certification: BLS by the American Heart Association required. Completion of a revised Charge Nurse and RN Unit Supervisor workshop within the first 90 days of employment.
Licensure:
Valid Virginia RN License.
Prefer more than two years of Registered Nurse clinical experience specifically related to the nursing unit focus.
