The Oncology Advanced Practice Provider – Woodbridge under general supervision and in accordance with APP standardized procedures/protocol: triage and management of the oncology and hematology patient as part of a collaborative team, counseling for patients and families throughout the diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up process. Physical examination and assessment. Working in collaboration with the patient’s referring provider as well as other members of the patient’s care team to ensure optimal patient experience and outcomes.

Infusion Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) job responsibilities
  • Conducts in‑depth interviews with patients, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs physical examinations, and explores patient’s interpretation of health needs as it relates to their diagnoses.
  • Ensures patient information, visit history, referrals, lab follow‑up, phone calls, and consults are carefully and completely documented in the electronic medical record.
  • Evaluates and manages patients with urgent complaints, determines appropriate patient disposition including escalating to hospital‑based care when necessary.
  • Evaluates infusion patients as they receive treatments to include management of infusion‑related reactions and acute treatment‑related side effects.
  • Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results.
  • Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Writes orders to increase, decrease, or change medications.
  • Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible provider of changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Educates/coaches fellow staff members including RNs and clinical technicians.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s in advanced clinical practice or graduate of a post‑master’s certificate program for nurse practitioners, American Association of Colleges of Nursing or National League for Nursing. For physician assistants, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start.
  • Licensure: Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; if Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on state of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth…
