Job Description

Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Critical Care Float Pool to join the team. Our nurses have the unique opportunity to float to all five intensive care units at Fairfax Medical Campus:
Trauma, Med/Surg, Neuro, Cardiovascular, and Cardiac Critical Care.

Full‑time Day Shift: Days Vary 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
  • Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  • Supports and empowers patients/families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end‑of‑life decisions.
  • Advocates for patients’ rights from the patient/family perspective while providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues.
  • Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
  • Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
  • Evaluates the outcomes of documentation and contributes to related performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and leads other disciplines to meet desired outcomes.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrates evidence of self‑development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Records.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
    • If RNs have an Associate’s Degree within 2 years of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following:
    • 1. Identify which school they plan to attend.
    • 2. Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion.
    • 3. Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required prerequisites and timeline for taking the courses.
    • 4. Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • Licensure: Licensed Registered Nurse or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi‑state Registered Nurse license.
  • Experience: 2+ years of critical care RN experience preferred.
  • Certifications: BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification (American Heart Association), ACLS (American Heart Association) & NIHSS.
