Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Supervisor Progressive Care Unit

Overview

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is looking for a dedicated Experienced Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Supervisor to join the Progressive Care team. This role is full‑time day shift: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm (3‑12 hour shifts, days vary). Sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance are available for eligible nurses.

The Progressive Care Unit is comprised of 36 beds. Patients admitted require cardiac telemetry monitoring and often have cardiac, renal, respiratory, or gastrointestinal disease processes. The staff works together as a team with a unified mission of quality and excellence.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conducts high quality shift huddles communicating strategic priorities related to target, actual and gap barriers, small tests of change, results of rounding, challenges, celebrations and other matters.
  • Conducts effective safety huddles and delegates environmental and safety rounding, ensuring completion of patient, medical director and RN rounding for areas of responsibility.
  • Rounds on staff continually to remove or elevate barriers to quality care and enhance staff engagement.
  • Reviews core measures, key performance indicators and other metrics relevant to unit/patient populations and participates in analysis of unit‑based service outcomes, developing action plans that systematically improve outcomes.
  • Participates in emergency and safety preparedness drills/trainings as required.
  • Ensures adherence to The Joint Commission standards relevant to areas of responsibility and ensures team members are knowledgeable of related standards.
  • Contributes to professional decision making supporting or implementing unit‑based quality improvement work and strategic outcomes.
  • Serves as a role model in communication with patients, identifying concerns, diffusing potentially difficult situations and facilitating resolution.
Additional Requirements
  • Education
    : BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an associate's degree, must be within one year of completing BSN.
  • Experience
    :
    Requires a minimum of 1‑year Registered Nurse clinical experience in an acute care setting.
  • Certification
    :
    Must be licensed as an RN in Virginia or hold privilege under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. BLS for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start. Specialty certification (as required by unit) within one year from hire date. Completion of a revised Charge Nurse workshop within the first 90 days (3 months) of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of progressive care experience is strongly preferred.
