Job Summary
Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Specialty Oncology. Full‑time day shift (12‑hour day, 7 am – 7 pm) at Inova Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria, VA.
Job Responsibilities- Perform comprehensive patient health assessments, interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
- Formulate individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and patient population trends.
- Conduct all patient care in a patient‑ and family‑centered manner, integrating core nursing knowledge, skills, and experiences.
- Advocate for patients’ rights, providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues.
- Access resources from all disciplines, coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
- Document all patient care activities per documentation standards and assist team members with documentation.
- Evaluate processes to achieve outcomes, anticipate patient variances, and revise plans of care.
- Make clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data, and intuition while promoting development of decision‑making among team members.
- Communicate effectively, work cooperatively with others, and respect other clinical disciplines.
- Assist staff in assessing patients’ learning needs and measuring patient education outcomes.
- Provide direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor; delegate patient‑care activities and coordinate unit activities as needed.
- Utilize standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery, ensuring that the process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology, and other team collaboration.
- Demonstrate evidence of self‑development by acquiring a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintaining a personal Continuing Education Record.
- Evaluate clinical and quality outcomes, contributing to performance improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN holds an Associate’s Degree (ADN), must complete a BSN within five years of start date.
Experience: Minimum of one year of Registered Nurse clinical experience.
Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association (AHA).
License: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi‑state Registered Nurse license.
