WAN Test Engineer

Hybrid, Fairfax County, Virginia Onsite 3 days per week Full-time $100/hour

The WAN Test Engineer owns acceptance testing for a large-scale, mission-critical wide area network deployment, carrying the test program from initial planning through formal execution, reporting, and stakeholder approval.

This role combines hands‑on network testing with requirements verification, technical writing, defect resolution, and close coordination across engineering, quality assurance, supplier, and customer‑facing teams.

• Own and maintain the overall WAN acceptance test plan, incorporating review feedback and driving the document through approval.
• Develop detailed factory and site acceptance test procedures that provide traceable coverage of network, subsystem, test, and demonstration requirements.
• Lead peer reviews and revisions of test procedures, reports, and other formal technical deliverables.
• Run draft procedures against factory equipment to validate test readiness and build engineering confidence before witnessed execution.
• Plan and conduct test dry runs and formal runs for record in coordination with quality assurance and stakeholder witnesses.
• Use packet capture, traffic generation, protocol analysis, and other network test tools to validate connectivity, performance, resiliency, and expected system behavior.
• Document test evidence and results in formal reports, route deliverables through internal review, and address stakeholder comments through closure.
• Verify applicable requirements through inspection and analysis of engineering documents, configuration records, and supplier data.
• Work with network engineering and delivery teams to investigate failures, manage defects, confirm corrective actions, and complete regression testing.
• Contribute to functional network configuration development and implement automation where it improves repeatability, evidence collection, or operational efficiency.

• Five or more years of experience in WAN engineering, network integration, systems test, or a closely related technical field.
• Hands‑on experience developing and executing factory acceptance, site acceptance, qualification, or system integration test procedures.
• Strong understanding of routed and switched networks, TCP/IP, common routing protocols, network services, and troubleshooting methods.
• Practical experience with packet capture, traffic analysis, and tool‑based network testing, including the ability to interpret test evidence and isolate failures.
• Experience translating system and network requirements into traceable verification steps, objective pass/fail criteria, and formal test reports.
• Ability to write clear technical procedures and reports and guide them through peer, quality, and stakeholder review.
• Experience coordinating witnessed tests and communicating technical findings to engineering teams and non‑specialist stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple deliverables, and drive open comments, defects, and corrective actions to closure.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with a valid green card.

• Experience testing enterprise, carrier, government, or other mission‑critical WAN environments.
• Familiarity with test automation, scripting, configuration validation, or automated evidence collection.
• Experience reviewing supplier data and engineering artifacts to verify compliance with technical requirements.
• Relevant networking certification such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or JNCIP.

• Hybrid position requiring onsite work in Fairfax County, Virginia, three days per week.
• Full‑time contract engagement at $100 per hour.
• Occasional schedule flexibility may be required for coordinated test windows and formal witnessed events.
