Job Description
Security Officer III – Full‑time evening shift (3:30 p.m. – 12 a.m.) with shift differential for weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Protects hospital properties, provides a safe environment for the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute (NVMHI), and supports facility operations.
Responsibilities- Patrol grounds and buildings to maintain security and address safety concerns.
- Respond to behavioral emergencies and escort individuals during special hospitalizations.
- Patrol nursing units every 15 minutes.
- Process electronic fingerprinting and monitor equipment temperatures.
- Respond to alarms and support emergency management programs.
- Transport individuals and assist the switchboard/reception as needed.
- Write reports, follow written and oral instructions, and use Microsoft products.
- Maintain effective working relationships using interpersonal skills.
- Work mandatory overtime as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience in a security/safety position.
- Current state motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Experience with MS Office.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience with diverse populations, including mental health and intellectual disabilities.
- Prior law enforcement experience.
- Experience in report writing.
- Choice of four health insurance plans.
