This is skilled construction and maintenance work.
Work involves performance of a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of city parks, trails, and park facilities. Work includes the operation of a wide variety of more complex motorized equipment. Work of this class involves tasks of more than ordinary difficulty requiring special knowledge or on-the-job training. General supervision is received from the Parks Managers and Supervisor who assign and review work.
Maintain and repair parks and park facilities.
Works special events and City Programs.
Completes the maintenance and improvement of City trails, both paved and unpaved. Including litter removal, campsite abatement, and general repair.
Prepares for emergencies including snow events, hurricanes, flooding, wind damage, and earthquakes; maintains generators and conducts snow removal during snow events.
Supports all other departments to solve problems and issues with parks, trails, and park facilities.
Performs a variety of journey-level trades work such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and others.
Operates a variety of trucks and other motorized equipment.
May be required to work overtime.
May be required to perform snow removal duties.
Performs related work as assigned.

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Requires two years’ experience in parks and trails maintenance and repair or closely related experience.
Requires a Virginia Class D Driver’s License.
Must pass a Criminal Background Check.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and maintenance work.
- Knowledge of the safe and correct use of hand and power tools and equipment common to the work.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to perform skilled construction and maintenance work.
- Ability to demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to follow City safety regulations.
- A Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Certificate or the ability to obtain one.
- A Certified Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certificate or the ability to obtain one.
- A Class A CDL license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia or the ability to obtain one.
Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m.
Mandatory overtime is required to work the 4th of July and Fall Festival special events.
