Responsibilities
You will gather requirements, design, and write all aspects of our web stack, leveraging React, Go, Postgres, and Docker on AWS infrastructure to build websites and supporting back-end systems such as Batch & Lambda routines, REST APIs, and databases. You will write data munging / cleaning / pipelining routines.
The role fits into an existing team of passionate developers and earth science modelers with backgrounds in hydrology, fluid dynamics, meteorology, computer science, geographic information systems (GIS), environmental science, civil engineering, and statistics. Projects are version-controlled in Git (Git Hub). Some projects involve publicly accessible websites and/or open-source codebases. Many projects involve geospatial aspects and interactive maps leveraging vector and raster data.

Required Skills & Required Experience
Required Skills & Experience
- 2-6 years of experience in web development using React
JS, NextJS, JavaScript, or Type Script - Bachelor's degree or professional experience in computer science, web development, earth sciences, hydrology, fluid dynamics, meteorology, GIS, or statistics
- Proficiency in basics of HTML, CSS, SQL (preferably Postgre
SQL), Git, Linux, and Python - Experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Strong problem solving and persistence
- Professional communication
- Willingness to showcase skills through a portfolio, example apps, or shared code
Desired Skills & Experience
- Docker: development of images and container orchestration
- GIS programming: GDAL, PostGIS
- GIS web map app frameworks:
Open Layers, Map Box, Leaflet - GIS web data services (serving and consuming): WMS, WFS, WCS
- AWS: S3, EC2, Batch, Lambda, RDS
- Python analysis: numpy, xarray, scipy
- Python GIS: rasterio, geopandas, shapely
- Git Hub Actions
- Desktop GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS)
- Statistical machine learning (regression, decision tree, random forest)
