- Hourly Rate: $16.00 per hour
- Schedule:
- Day Shift: 7:15 AM - 2:15 PM
- Afternoon/Evening Shift: 2:15 PM - 6:30 PM

Immediate openings available - This is a 1099 contracted position and does not include benefits
- Compensation is based on a flat hourly rate for contracted services and is not negotiable. Custodians are paid for hours worked, as outlined in their contract.

At Independence Preparatory Academy, our custodial team plays a critical role in ensuring that scholars and teachers can focus entirely on learning — free from distractions, hazards, or disorder. As a founding Custodian, you will help deliver the operational excellence that powers iPrep's mission. You will take pride in maintaining a spotless, organized, and welcoming campus that reflects our values of Service, Optimism, Agency, Resilience, and Pride.
Your attention to detail and commitment to a high standard of cleanliness will help scholars feel valued, families feel welcomed, and staff feel supported every single day. By keeping our classrooms ready, our hallways shining, and our facilities running smoothly, you help protect every instructional minute—and ensure that our school remains a place where excellence takes root.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and common spaces
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect surfaces daily to maintain hygiene standards
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper waste disposal
- Refill soap, paper towels, and sanitizer dispensers as needed
- Perform minor maintenance tasks and promptly report major repairs or safety concerns
- Support set‑up and tear‑down for school events, assemblies, and meetings
- Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
- Ensure all doors are locked, all lights are turned off, and the building is secured as directed
- Adhere to all safety protocols and cleaning schedules to maintain compliance with health and safety standards
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or school leadership
- Proven experience as a custodian, janitor, or similar role (school or public facility preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and prolonged standing
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Must pass a background check in compliance with Alabama state law
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
