Solano Community College District is a single college district that serves one of the most ethnically and racially diverse counties in California. Located on the ancestral lands of the Patwin people, Solano Community College's Fairfield campus is in the heart of Suisun Valley midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. We also serve students at centers in Vallejo and Vacaville, at Travis Air Force Base, and at three correctional facilities.

Our many innovative programs are supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including a new library and learning center, science labs, and lecture rooms.

Students who attend Solano Community College are dedicated, persistent, and remarkable individuals who deserve the best opportunities a community college can provide. We invite you to join us on our journey to provide equitable and anti-racist education honoring and empowering the students of Solano Community College.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Ethnic Studies Department is part of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division of Solano Community College (SCC). Because students are required to complete an ethnic studies course to earn an associate degree and/or transfer to four-year universities, the Ethnic Studies Department plays a crucial role in the educational trajectory of SCC students, providing foundational racial-literacy curricula that students take with them for the rest of their lives.

SCC's Ethnic Studies Department is small but mighty, with one full-time faculty who is a Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x Studies specialist and several part-time instructors who teach Introduction to Ethnic Studies. We seek to grow the department and its programmatic offerings. There is increased student interest in our A.A. in Ethnic Studies and a need to develop more courses and degrees in the four specialized ethnic studies fields:
Black/African American Studies;
Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x Studies;
Native American Studies; and Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies.

DESCRIPTION:

We seek candidates who have scholarly training in, a passion for, and a commitment to the field of ethnic studies, which is rooted in a specific history of racial-justice activism and distinct from "multicultural education" broadly speaking. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in ethnic studies including Introduction to Ethnic Studies, which surveys the histories and cultures of the four groups at the core of ethnic studies scholarship and practice:
Black/African Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, U.S. Latinos, and Native/Indigenous Americans. We are specifically seeking candidates who have expertise in Black/African American Studies who are excited to play a key role in growing SCC's ethnic studies program overall and expanding degree and course offerings in Black/African American Studies specifically.

The successful candidate will be a…
