Position: Ethnic Studies (PT)
Welcome to the application process for part-time faculty at Solano Community College. Solano Community College (SCC) values the diversity of its community and is committed to honoring and empowering all our students. Our goal is to find dedicated faculty to support and serve our diverse student body and surrounding communities. We invite student-centered applicants knowledgeable in culturally responsive teaching and effective practices to engage students and help them reach their academic goals.

Description of Position

The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Ethnic Studies, which surveys the histories and cultures of all four groups at the core of ethnic-studies scholarship and practice:
Black/African Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, U.S. Latinos, and Native/Indigenous Americans. Future opportunities to teach courses focused on one of the four groups listed above may become available as our college's burgeoning Ethnic Studies Program expands.

We are specifically seeking candidates who are community-engaged scholars committed to antiracist, decolonial, and social-justice pedagogy. Our college currently has a high demand for ethnic-studies educators enthusiastic to teach in-person classes at our main campus in Fairfield, and at our Vacaville and Vallejo Centers. In addition, we are also actively recruiting candidates who are interested in teaching justice-impacted students at nearby state correctional facilities as part of our Rising Scholars Program (although availability to teach in Rising Scholars is not a requirement of this position).

About the College

Solano Community College (SCC) serves one of the most ethnically and racially diverse counties in California. Located on the ancestral lands of the Patwin people, SCC's Fairfield campus is in the heart of Suisun Valley midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. We also serve students at two centers in Vallejo and Vacaville, at Travis Air Force Base, and at three correctional facilities.

SCC students are dedicated, resilient, and remarkable individuals who deserve the best opportunities a community college can provide. Providing this opportunity means having interest in and ability to work with students from diverse academic and/or socioeconomic backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, and racial and ethnic groups. Our students come from both urban and rural backgrounds, from the military, and other diverse backgrounds.

We serve students who represent the following demographics:
Latino (37%), Asian American (22%), Black non-Hispanic (16%), and White non-Hispanic (21%). We seek candidates who embrace our community, our student population and who have an unwavering commitment to equity, especially the elimination of barriers to college access, success, and completion.

Current college efforts toward equity include the Puente Project, Black Falcon Success Program, Students Overcoming Adversity and Recidivism [SOAR], the AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) Student Achievement Program, Pride Center, Undocumented Resources Center, Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS), Rising Scholars, and our Veterans Center. Additional efforts include professional support such as Teaching for Equity (T4E), the Student Equity and Success Council, and the Ethnic Minority Coalition.
