Overview
Solano Community College is seeking highly qualified applicants for part-time adjunct teaching positions in the biology department. The successful candidate, meeting the minimum qualifications outlined below, will be responsible for teaching various areas of biology. Assignments will be available in the fall, spring, and summer terms. The ideal candidate can demonstrate a wide range of teaching strategies to facilitate effective student learning.
As we actively recruit, we are particularly interested in experienced professionals with expertise in microbiology and general biology. ABOUT THE DIVISION and BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT:
At Solano Community College, students learn biology in our new state of the art science teaching laboratories facilities. The newly completed science building in Fairfield is central structure on the main campus. The Biotechnology/Science facilities in Vacaville were completed in 2017 and have assisted thousands of students in their science education. Furthermore, the science and mathematics division run classes on the second floor of the Vallejo Center.
The biology department hosts a robust and rigorous Biology majors' program, pre-allied health education, and teaches non-majors general education biology courses. Microbiology faculty play a central role in teaching students in our Biomedical Sciences certificate and Associates degree program that prepares students for health science professions like nursing, respiratory technology, and other patient care fields.
Cell and molecular biology and microbiology serve as a portal to other science fields like biotechnology. The most recent addition to our offerings is the Biomanufacturing Bachelor of Science Degree centered at the new Vacaville facility, one of only two such degrees in the state.
We want instructors who care about students, about pedagogy, and the future of our community. We are looking for an individual willing to take risks to achieve those goals.
DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will teach a variety of biology courses face-to-face at one of our three main locations. The ability to use and expand the use of technology and active learning strategies in the classroom and laboratory will be expected. Skilled candidates who have strong academic backgrounds, and can demonstrate a variety of teaching strategies, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Safety is a priority at Solano Community College, and the successful candidate will be expected to know, follow, implement and enforce all safety rules and standards of the department.
