UC Cooperative Extension Advisor Urban Integrated Pest Management (Assistant Rank)

Position Overview

The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Urban Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Area Advisor serving Sacramento, Yolo, and Solano Counties. The Advisor will develop an innovative applied research and extension education program that supports Integrated Pest Management in the three-county area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop IPM strategies for urban pest management while protecting public health and the environment.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with local public agencies, licensed pest management professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct applied research on high-priority landscape pests and pests in and around structures.
  • Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and produce extension materials such as Pest Notes and Quick Tips.
  • Organize and deliver workshops, short courses, field demonstrations, and site visits.
  • Provide technical outreach to the public, county staff, and pest management professionals.
Education and Experience

Minimum Education:

Master’s degree in pest management or a closely related discipline.

Key Qualifications
  • Deep understanding of urban integrated pest management and the ability to design and implement an effective program.
  • Experience with experimental design and applied research.
  • Practical experience or training in structural and/or landscape pest management.
  • Demonstrated project planning, team management, and implementation of applied research and outreach programs.
  • Must possess or obtain within one year a Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate (QAC) or License (QAL) before supervising pesticide application.
  • Ability to travel on a flexible schedule and maintain liability and vehicle insurance; valid California Driver’s License required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire; no employment visa sponsorship.
Additional Skills Required
  • Experience meeting UC Academic Personnel Manual requirements for the UC Academic Title Series.
  • Interest in a career in UC Cooperative Extension.
  • Technical competence in program design and implementation that leads to community impact.
  • Excellence in written, oral, interpersonal, and information technology communication skills.
  • Collaboration, teamwork, and flexibility with county staff and external stakeholders.
  • Lifelong learning and adaptability to industry changes.
Desired Experience
  • Extension education and outreach experience.
  • Experience building partnerships and working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in multiple pest disciplines.
  • Multilingual communication ability is a plus.
Salary & Benefits

Assistant Rank salary range:
Step I ($85,600) to Step VI ($108,600). The position is eligible for indefinite status following three successful reviews. Comprehensive benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, two days per month paid vacation, one day per month paid sick leave, paid holidays, and eligible sabbatical leave privileges.
