we are city of fairfield, delivering quality programs for youth tk/k through 5th grade. Our programs provide a supportive and enriching environment designed to help youth thrive. The city of fairfield has been selected as a contract service provider to lead after school programs at sullivan academy, fairview elementary and anna kyle elementary, and for services with travis unified school district at center elementary.

Programs are offered through the california department of education, extended learning opportunity program (elop).

position

recreation program assistant – early childhood

are you passionate about helping young children learn, grow, and explore the world around them? The city of fairfield parks & recreation department is looking for a caring, energetic recreation program assistant to support our early childhood program for children ages 2–5. You will help create a warm, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can thrive through hands-on activities, play-based learning, and daily routines.

You will assist with arts and crafts and circle time, guide games, support social-emotional development, and help maintain a safe and joyful classroom setting. If you have at least one year of recreation or child-focused experience and enjoy working with little learners in a fun, supportive environment, we’d be delighted to have you join us!

this position is represented by fairfield part-time employees’ association (fptea), is part-time, non-benefited, and will work approximately 1,200 hours in a fiscal year (july 1-june 30), subject to program needs and contract renewal.

candidates must be available to work a varied schedule to meet program needs, which may include holidays. Elop programs operate during the regular school year and may extend hours during school breaks and summer sessions. Elop programs close annually for approximately 30 days, between july 1 and august 1, resulting in an unpaid break in service for part-time employees assigned to the program.

experience
  • any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position. Experience participating in recreation or sport activities, childcare, or volunteer service in related field is desirable.
  • note: candidates with experience equivalent to one (1) year of experience working as a recreation program aide in the city of fairfield or similar experience participating in recreation programs or sports activities will be considered for recreation program assistant.
education
  • equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • 48 college units or a para-educator certificate. The above-listed requirements may qualify for a 5% incentive added to the flat hourly rate, totaling $19.16/hour for recreation program aides and $20.48/hour for recreation program assistants.
    note: you must include proof of unit completion or certification to your application.
license and/or certificate
  • individuals who are appointed to this position will be required to maintain a valid california class c driver’s license throughout the tenure of employment.
  • select positions may require possession of, or ability to obtain, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (cpr) and first aid certification within 30 days of hire and is a condition of employment.
