Adjunct Faculty – Weather & Climate (NSCI 170)
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on‑site at Travis Air Force Base, CA, in the Natural Sciences Program. The course is an introduction to the basic principles of atmospheric science. The goal is to use scientific and quantitative reasoning to make informed decisions about topics related to atmospheric science. Topics include the effect of different weather elements (such as temperature, pressure, winds, and humidity) on weather patterns and climate.
Discussion also covers weather phenomena such as El Nino, thunderstorms, tornadoes, tropical cyclones, and mid latitude cyclones, as well as the impact of humans on Earth's atmosphere.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Agricultural Science, or a related field of learning; and professional experience in a related field. The degree must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
- This position is designated to teach onsite at Travis Air Force Base, CA.

- If selected, candidates with international degrees may be required to submit a translation/degree evaluation from a NACES approved vendor.
- Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and convey a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
- Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem‑ and project‑based learning demonstrations.
- Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
- Demonstrate relevant and current subject‑matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
- Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
Faculty Training at UMGC:
All new faculty members are required to successfully complete our online two‑week new faculty orientation, Fac Dev 411, as a condition of hire.
