Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Job Summary

Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Fairfield, CA. You will develop and improve manufacturing processes by studying products and manufacturing methods. You will apply your skills to implement improvements that reduce cycle time and cost and improve productivity, while maintaining a high level of safety in the manufacturing environment and quality within the product.

You will work onsite in Fairfield, CA, directly supporting production operations and overseeing a production area with multiple fabrication cells and processes.

NOTE:

The role involves hands‑on floor support, not purely design or validation.

What You Will Do
  • Plan, develop, and maintain manufacturing operations, standard work, work instructions, and technical documentation to ensure compliant and efficient production.
  • Lead manufacturing plan, tooling strategies, and production methodologies, including fixture/tool design and tool life management.
  • Design tools, mechanisms, and special machine tools using CAD.
  • Create designs and drawings to be sent out for build.
  • Work independently to solve problems and create new designs, generally with little guidance.
  • Design, test, and implement assembly fixtures, tooling, and production support equipment.
  • Conduct variation, capability, and manufacturability analyses to ensure processes meet performance and quality requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods—including ultrasonic, radiographic/X‑ray, and N‑ray inspections—to ensure products meet engineering specifications.
  • Propose the sequence of operations and installations and support specifying procedures for fabrication of tools and equipment and other processes, which may include disassembly/assembly and repairs, to ensure efficiency and optimize performance.
  • Investigate and resolve technical, operational, and quality issues through root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Interface and work with Production Operators, Design, Quality, and other Manufacturing Engineers to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and ensure products are manufactured in compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Participate in the Integrated Product Team and product reviews to align technical solutions across disciplines and ensure production readiness.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, Design Engineering, EH&S, and Value Streams to ensure safety, quality, compliance, improve performance, and meet program objectives.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) access.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Knowledge of mechanics and application of mechanical movements.
  • Experience in interpreting and working with engineering blueprints, specifications, and advanced measuring equipment for tool validation and inspection.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience in highly regulated aerospace or space manufacturing environments (e.g., Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, NASA, or equivalent).
  • Experience with aerospace quality systems and compliance environments (AS9100, AS9110, AS9120).
  • Experience supporting machine operations, including fixture/tool design, tool life management, routing/work instructions, and CNC programming familiarity.
  • Experience with non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods (ultrasonic, radiographic/X‑ray, N‑ray) and interpretation of results.
  • Leading and providing guidance…
