The IETS department is seeking a Systems Assurance Specialist to join our growing team. This role offers opportunities for independent study, formal training, mentorship, and on‑the‑job practice. The Systems Assurance Specialist will work autonomously within the IETS Systems Assurance team, performing tasks as required.

This position is based out of our Fairfield, California office with occasional travel to offices and project sites in the US and Canada.

Corporate Responsibilities

• Coordinate, perform, and ensure safety & security assurance activities (RAMS)
• Coordinate lifecycle safety and security studies ensuring compliance
• Maintain System Safety Assurance Plan
• Apply risk and safety and security assurance methodologies
• Attend periodic safety reviews
• Coordinate interfaces
• Support findings closure
• Assist or lead in the development of PHA, FMECA, FTA, IHA, TVA, OSHA
• Assist in producing a Safety Case

Project Responsibilities – Design Phase

• Ensure system‑level safety and security
• Manage safety and security documentation & requirements
• Maintain GSAP, PHA, Dangerous Situations Register
• Support system/software certifications
• Disseminate safety security measures / mitigations
• Manage transfers between providers
• Integrate security measures

Project Responsibilities – Construction Phase

• Consolidation of security requirements for internal and external interfaces
• Maintain list of safety‑critical components
• Control plan for safety‑critical components
• Preparation and implementation of safety tests
• Finalize the hazardous occurrence register (RSD)

• Inquisitive and willing to learn about a wide variety of rail systems requirements as part of the team
• Technical background in engineering (academics and/or work experience, ideally with professional consulting work experience) and strong technical written and oral communication skills; role involves collaboration with clients, contractors, and other engineering firms
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work with groups of professionals and technicians
• Experience with direct client interface and complete project life‑cycle (design to commissioning) is an asset
• Minimum 5 years in a Systems Engineering/Systems Assurance/RAMS environment, preference for rail transit experience and familiarity with CENELEC standards
• Experience in the Systems Engineering lifecycle is an asset, including typical tools for development of requirements (e.g., DOORS)
