The City of Fairfield invites your interest for the position of Building Engineering Plans Examiner (Associate Civil Engineer)! The City of Fairfield is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Associate Civil Engineer (Plan Check) who thrives in a collaborative public service environment and demonstrates strong independent judgment. The ideal candidate will have experience performing plan review and coordination for complex private development and public improvement projects, including interpreting and applying engineering standards, municipal codes, and applicable regulations.

This individual is a self-starter who can manage assignments with minimal supervision, prioritize competing deadlines, and confidently navigate complex development and infrastructure projects while building effective working relationships with internal staff, developers, consultants, and the public. The City values professionals who demonstrate initiative, accountability, sound engineering judgment, and a commitment to delivering timely and thorough plan check services that support Fairfield's continued growth and development.

Compensation and benefits are estimated at $162,870 - $191,290
* with a base salary of $114,912 - $139,669. Benefits include 401(a) and 457 deferred compensation plans, personal leave, vacation, CalPERS pension eligibility, city-paid life insurance, tuition reimbursement, and a 9/80 work schedule.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, three years of professional civil/structural engineering experience, a current registration as a civil engineer in the State of California, and a valid Class C California Driver's License. Certification as a California CASp is highly desirable.
