Job Overview
Solano County Department Of Information Technology (DoIT) provides customer‑oriented and convenient access to information and services through technology; anytime—anywhere. The County strives for cost‑effective use of technology, interactive exchange and sharing of data within departments, with constituents, other governments, and business partners.
The guiding principles of DoIT are:
- Support and facilitate access to County information for the public and its employees, helping the County conduct its business quickly and easily
- Support the business goals of the County efficiently and cost‑effectively
- Provide safe and secure systems and integration mechanisms to streamline business practices
- Provide ongoing technology training for staff
- Provide opportunities for constituents to use technology in interactions with the County
- Share and exchange information using multiple channels
Depending on assignment, the role plans, designs, customizes, updates, develops, and maintains assigned applications, technology infrastructure components, and related systems—large and small data processing and application systems serving work units, divisions, departments, multi‑departmental, and county‑wide functions. Responsibilities may include:
- Software development
- Database administration
- Security administration
- Network and server administration
- Service desk management
- Geographic information system (GIS) support
- Lead or participate as a member of a team, depending on class level assigned
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues
- Implement system improvements and upgrades
- Education: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree, preferably in information technology or a closely related field. A Bachelor’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
- Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible software development or infrastructure management duties and functions. Additional experience may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis for the educational requirement.
- Licensing, Certification and Registration: Applicants may be required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, Class
C. All licenses, certificates and registrations must be kept current during employment.
Eligible veterans who served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty and received honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions, or have a service‑connected disability, may receive preference points. Veteran’s preference points are added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
