Job Description
At North Bay Health the Stationary Engineer shall, under the direction of the Chief Engineer, safely and efficiently operate and reliably maintain the medical center’s physical/central plant, utilities, systems and equipment, including but not limited to steam boilers, emergency power generators, electrical distribution, refrigeration, plumbing, HVAC, vertical/horizontal transport, medical gas, patient care and fire/life safety related equipment.
The Stationary Engineer routinely interfaces with customers to gather information on work requests, provide status updates, and ensure customer satisfaction with completed tasks. They ensure complete documentation of work performed and meet or exceed all federal, state, local laws, organizational performance standards and regulatory agency requirements (e.g., CMS, TJC, Cal‑OSHA).
PrimaryJob Duties
- All work performed in a safe, effective manner, complying with codes and regulations, and fully documented in the CMMS database.
- Operate, inspect, test, and maintain the hospital’s central utility plant systems and equipment.
- Operate, inspect, test, and maintain fire/life safety systems and equipment.
- Operate, inspect, test, and maintain site‑specific building systems and patient‑related devices.
- Perform and document regular inspections of healthcare facility buildings, central utility plant systems, and equipment.
- Repair mechanical, electrical, low‑voltage, plumbing, pneumatic, carpentry, hydraulic, communication, and lighting systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve a variety of problems under normal and abnormal conditions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, manuals and other documents.
- Evaluate new equipment and report findings.
- Install electrical, lighting, communication, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- May be required to work during emergencies, off‑hours, and weekends.
- Participate in after‑hours standby rotation upon qualification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school graduate or equivalent. - Experience:
4+ years of stationary engineer experience, preferably in healthcare facilities plant operations and maintenance. - Certifications/Licenses:
Air‑conditioning certification preferred by 40 CFR part 82; must maintain valid California driver’s license. - Skills:
Familiarity with equipment and procedures used to troubleshoot and repair physical/central utility plant systems; basic computer skills. - Compensation: $48.28 - $58.71 (maximum rate commensurate with 20+ years of experience; offered rate based on experience).
