Clinical Nurse (RN)

The Clinical Nurse (RN) holds the responsibility, accountability, and authority to provide safe, effective, high-quality nursing care aligned with the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Department. Utilizing Jean Watson's Theory of Caring, Relationship Based Care, and a professional nursing practice model, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for all assigned patients.

The RN evaluates patient progress toward goals and fosters therapeutic professional relationships with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to support health promotion, maintenance, and restoration. Care is tailored to the patient's specific physiological, developmental, and psychosocial needs. The RN supports the organization's mission, vision, values, and commitment to excellence.

Competency is demonstrated by consistently applying scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences through the nursing process, including:

• Providing care consistent with the interdisciplinary plan and grounded in Relationship Based Care principles.
• Continuously assessing the patient's physical and psychosocial condition, formulating nursing diagnoses based on observations and information from the patient and healthcare team.
• Developing a collaborative care plan with the patient that ensures safety, comfort, hygiene, protection, disease prevention, and restorative measures.
• Performing necessary nursing skills, explaining treatments to patients and families, and educating them on health care needs.
• Evaluating care plan effectiveness through observation, symptom monitoring, and communication with the patient and healthcare team, adjusting the plan as needed.
• Maintaining current knowledge and safe use of equipment, instruments, and medications.
• Delegating tasks to care team members according to their legal scope of practice and capabilities, while supervising nursing care delivery.
• Advocating for patients by initiating actions to improve care or alter decisions that conflict with patient interests, ensuring informed decision-making.
• Providing culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal practice standards.
• Coordinating patient care activities with nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and ancillary team members.

Demonstrates proficiency in written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.

Performs all physical duties required by the role, including lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and fine motor skills.

• Completes annual organizational employment requirements.
• Utilizes effective communication to ensure safe patient handoffs.
• Documents nursing care in accordance with hospital policies.
• Employs manual and automated information systems to enhance efficiency and productivity.

• Accountable for meeting or exceeding unit and organizational patient satisfaction goals.
• Contributes positively to patient care experiences through individual interactions with patients and families.
• Understands the impact of personal behavior on patient experience.
• Assists in resolving complaints promptly when possible.
• Investigates complaints from physicians, employees, and patients, providing information to appropriate leadership.
